Bathtub Cleaning Miracle Bar

So I found this DIY post about making a cleaning bar specifically for the bathtub! Best of all it claimed to be this amazing revolutionary grease and soap scum fighter! So I went in to try and make it and test out this claim.

Soap Scum Bar Tutorial

  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup laundry soda (nellies laundry soda)
  • 1/4 cup Castile soap
  • 10 drops of lemon and tea tree essential oil.

Failure and Success

Following the directions to this recipe resulted in a mushy gooey mess! However that mushy goo cleaned the bathtub with nothing more than a cleaning cloth and a few minutes of light scrubbing/ waving of my hand across the bathtub surface!

I am disappointed that it never turned into a bar because I was hoping to make and store these for easier use. I read through the original instructions which lead me to believe that perhaps I didn’t get the mixture into the mold fast enough before it cured.

When it comes to cleaning the bathtub this is such a hassle that I would often go months between cleaning. Until now! Seriously the bathtub has always been my arch nemesis but this has never been truer than living with hard water. The hard water seems to speed up the dirt and grime collection in the bathtub. However this cleaning solution makes hard water build up wipe off as if it were a spilled drink, it is just effortless! This is my new go to cleaning solution for any cleaning in the bathroom or kitchen!

TIP: It is best advisable to use daily shower cleaning solution after taking a shower but you need to first start with a clean shower! The daily shower cleaning sprays are a preventative measure that only work on already clean showers. This bar or goo works on getting that dirty shower clean so that the daily shower spray can be used.

For instance I have been using the daily shower cleaning spray for the last few months and it has kept my shower walls pretty spotless. A normal deep clean of my shower recently took me over 6 hours of soaking the shower in bleach water, removing caulk, and scrubbing the walls and tub. Since I have started using the daily shower spray the walls remain soap scum and mold free.

I wish I would have known about this cleaning solution back when I did my deep clean with the bleach water.  Enough about me!
