Rotopax mounted to Eezi-Awn K9 Roof Rack With Maggiolina RTT

We are lucky that the Rotopax company is local so today we spent nearly 3+ hours at the Rotopax manufacturing center getting help and ideas from the folks who make and sell the products!

TIP #1

there is only one receptionist answering the phones, emails, and ebay questions so go easy on her guys!

TIP #2

For starters I was advised not to buy the locking Rotopax mount Because

  1. it can’t handle getting wet or dirt build up.
  2. When the lock seizes from dirt or water then the only way to remove the Rotopax is by drilling/boring out the seized up lock.
  3. the lock system is bought through a Chinese distributor
  4. The lock is more for looks than actual theft protection.
  5. There are more cost effective anti theft mechanisms

TIP #3

1 gallon of gas weighs 6.2lbs so when you expect to go off road make sure you;

  • mount your Rotopax with more than just the mounting hardware, use tie down straps.
  • Make sure your Rotopax has a foot mount (something it can rest on top of) if mounting vertical.
  • There are plenty of complaints from people going off road with their Rotopax and things breaking because they didn’t have the Rotopax strapped down and weighted properly.

TIP #4

keep your Rotopax out of direct sunlight and burp/vent it often when changing altitude.

  • A lot of complaints involve “faulty product claims” and report leak or explosions, this simply isn’t true. The fact is a lot of people don’t understand that they need to burb the gas can especially when it begins to swell/ expand when left in direct sun light.

supplies

  • (4) 8M bolts and lock nuts
  • Rotopax L Bracket
  • Rotopax standard mount

Process

#1. Measure the distance from your mounting slot on the roof rack to the back plate of the L bracket.

#2. Widen existing hole openings to fit the 8M bolt. Drill the holes larger with a titanium bit.

NOTE: we detached the tent from the rack and propped the corner up wth a spare piece of 2×4 to mount the L bracket.

#3. Fit bolts into rack slat and place the L bracket over the bolts and loosely fit the nuts on.

#4. Slide your L bracket and dry fit your Rotopax before tightening all of the nuts in place.

#5. Remove the 2×4 block of wood and reattach your tent mount.

Final mounting will include straps to secure it in place on the rack and prevent the 24lbs of weight from pulling on the L bracket.
