Advanced Hand Washing Camp Faucet and Pump System

Advanced Hand Washing Camp Faucet and Pump

4/2024: 6+ years of owning this and it is a main staple of every camping trip we take. I love the hands free foot pump operation! I love how compact and mobile it is and most importantly it is easy to use and extremely hygienic!

I ordered the Sink faucet system because I wanted an easily mobile sink system to integrate with my Yummy Sam collapsible tub and I needed it fast before our trip!

The Etsy vendor was very responsive and great to work with. I was having a hard time coordinating and explaining whaut I needed to have modified with the system because I was at work the day we spent emailing back and forth but he was able to figure out what I needed without me directly telling him. I did send him a link to the sink so he would have specs. My criteria was that the system fit within the Yummy Sam bin.

Today (9/20/17) I received my eagerly awaited Advanced Hand Washing Camp Faucet.

  • I ordered the device with ground shipping on Monday and it arrived on Wednesday!

I opened the package and to my surprise the entire system was wrapped up in this really awesome looking mesh bag that is far better than what is pictured on Etsy. I am confident it will keep any debris and dirt in the bag while allowing the components to air dry.

I was slightly disappointed that the copper faucet head was so rounded vs the Etsy picture of a straighter faucet. I am slightly concerned that water wont reach where I want it to in the middle of the basin. However only time will tell if this is really an issue or my imagination. My overall impression of the system is that of quality and craftsmanship.

There was a hand written note inside the box and it explained the customization that I had asked for and that the builder took the liberty of making other adjustments anticipating my needs that I had forgotten to mention when we emailed!! He added extra tubing anticipating that I would be using this system on a waist high surface such as a table, in reality the tail gate of the land cruiser!

I hooked the system up, got a bowl of water, and it didn’t work. So Eric got out the tools and started to fiddle with the inline filter and got it working.

In line filter for large debris particles.

UPDATE 10/1/17

After our seven day back country camping trip and using the hand washing system I can say that it has won me over to convert from using my larger camp kitchen to solely using the above pictured set up.

PROS:

  • Water preservation
    • The powerful water stream used significantly less water than our previous water faucet system and greatly increased our water preservation over our lengthy 7 day trip.
    • It preserved our water to the point that we were able to take a shower during out back country camping trip through White Rim without worry.
  • Easily mobile for overnight camping trips
  • I loved having the extra soap holder which is where I routinely kept my soap and sponge.
  • Easy set up and break down of system.
  • Great large foot bulb which was easy to wipe down and put away.
  • I ended up using the copper looped faucet to hook onto the water jug handles when storing over night
  • peace of mind having the end of the water hose with a filter on it to prevent dead bugs and debris from getting through.

CONS:

  • My original concern about the direction of the faucet being pointed down too much did have some negative effects for my use. The water would hit the dishes and spray all over the tail gait because it was A) too powerful of a water stream and B) didn’t point low enough or far enough to the center. HOWEVER It is fixable!
  • I routinely ran into daily trouble of the end of the tube with the screen on it not fully functioning and requiring extra finesse to get it to siphon water.
  • the mesh bag some how managed to get a hole in it which was disappointing considering it was given the white glove treatment our entire trip. I will have to use a mesh screen patch to fix it.
