Arlo Pro 2 Power Cords and Options
If you recently purchased a Netgear Arlo Pro 2 smart home security camera system excited about using the new added features like the CVR then you are in sore luck. I was excited to see that Costco had a 5 camera arlo pro 2 package sale for $830.00 NO TAX, NO SHIPPING FEE!!! It also came with two power cords and adapters,(3) camera skins, (1) longer outdoor mount, (5) indoor magnetic mounts, and (2) small indoor/outdoor ball mounts. I naively thought that I could easily buy extra power cords through the Manufacturing web site but to my horror this option isn’t available.
After reading numerous customer complaints about this very issue on Netgears website community forums I reached out to customer service directly I learned that there is no fix to the problem and upper management has long been aware and has chosen to do nothing!!! The customer service representative suggested that I either buy a third party power cord or buy one of the two available options of either the charging station that comes with a power cord or the extra battery that comes with the power cord. However the latter two options are not cost effective or viable as it costs $49.99 and comes with items that I don’t need.
#1. I confirmed that this product is being sold and advertised as having added features that are only accessible when plugged into a continuous power source.
#2. Netgear is not offering these power cords readily available with your purchase of the cameras nor are they available for separate purchase through Netgear.
#3. Yes Netgear did sell an outdoor power cord for their cameras but it was recalled in 2017 and they have yet to release another version.
#4. It is true that if the consumer uses a third party power source that leads to product damages then this will void any manufacturing warranty.
#5. Lastly Netgear does not sell the power cords needed to operate the cameras either indoor or outdoor and encouraged me to buy a third party cord after I already confirmed that this would void my warranty.
I really wanted to like the Arlo Pro 2 because it offered very similar user options to the Nest cameras but without the monthly accessibility charges. However I am heavily disappointed in the companies false advertising and fraudulent sales practices. I am very surprised that they can sell a product that requires a power source that they don’t sell and claim will void the product warranty if third party cords are used.
Power Cords
I purchased the Anker 3.0 Quick charge 10ft cord and adapter as well as a 20ft outdoor power cord by Online Enterprises, which hasn’t arrived yet. I will update this section once I have had ample time using the products but so far the Anker has plugged in and worked to power and charge the Arlo Pro 2 Camera.
Local Storage
For local storage I purchased the Samsung 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive Fit (MUF-32BB/AM) due to its slim compact body design.
