Re Usable Air Fresheners

I am looking for sustainable ways of keeping air fresheners in the house and car.  Here are some of my absolute favorite DIY solutions and they worked so well that I am not ashamed to make these for other people for the holidays.

Table top Supplies Air Freshener:

  • 2oz water beads (color of choice)
  • Elegant Expressions by Hosley Large Warming Oil or essential oils
  • glass jars, I grabbed some out of my recycling bin that were washed.
  • UPDATE 1/12/18: would recommend saving any old plastic containers used for hummus or sour cream to place your scented beads into.
SUCCESS

Scented Processes

1. I filled the jar with water, ran it in the microwave for 1 minute and then removed the label after letting the heated water sit in there for another minute.

2. Once the water cooled I poured in the scented warming oil and mixed it. Careful not to dump too much or it won’t mix.

3. I added 2tsp of water beads and let them soak all day

4. I divided the beads into three different wide mouth jars and DONE!

5. I put them on my coffee table and they smell amazing.

Lid Options

A. Recycled Lids: If like me you are just going to re use an old salsa jar then you could drill holes in the top and spray paint the lid or glue fabric down.

B. No Lid: You can use Burlap Fabric over the top of your jar and secure it with a rubber band, twine, or ribbon.

C. Daisy Mason Jar Lids. You can always use mason jars and order the

Reusable Felt Hanging Air Freshener

I have a few different styles I am going to be making as gifts and for myself!

  • Unicorn Air Freshener

    Supplies

  1. You will need a stencil for the unicorn. I will be buying the cookie cutter at Michael’s for $1.00 and Using it as my stencil. You could also save the image into paint and resize it and print it out.

The cookie cutter worked better than expected to stencil with and best of all is that I get to make unicorn cookies!!!!

  1. UPDATE 1/12/18: Use a small spray bottle with water+essential oil to refresh your DIY felt air fresheners.

3. Exacto knife

4. scissors

5. tacky glue

6. Felt/Foam sheets. It is important to note that for best results buy stiff felt!!!  I bought soft felt in the colors of white felt, pink felt, gliirty gold foam or white foam sheet

7. Cardboard to protect your table or counter when cutting out your design.

Build

1. I used the cooks cutter to press into the foam sheet and used the exacto knife to cut out the unicorn.

2. Then I used the foam cut out to stencil on the white and pink felt. I also cut out a star to place on the white felt side.

3. I used the tacky glue to glue the felt onto the foam pad

4. For extra bling I made one side in gold glitter foam cut out.

I had so much fun making this that I made 3
