GX SC4-I Air Compressor Initial Set Up and Testing
Begin by reading the instruction pamphlet!!
I am Less than happy about the lack of legal written written warranty that this air compressor comes with. I am even more disappointed by the sorry excuse of directions/owners manual it came with. So I hope this helps anyone looking for better instructions.

Distilled Water
This compressor requires the use of PH neutral distilled water or antifreeze! Since My compressor is going to lead an extremely luxurious life indoors in my basement I will be using distilled water and never fear it freezing. I did go to a local store that offers a distilled water fill station. I took my own half gallon jug to fill and bought the distilled water. You can also find 1 gallon of distilled water for sale in most grocery stores. I ended up using 2-3 cups of distilled water to flush my system and refill it.
There is a big difference between filtered, purified, and distilled water. With distilled water being the method for removing the maximum amount of minerals and contaminates and filters being the least effective at removing minerals and contaminates. Automated Purified water fill stations is what is commonly found at all grocery stores. Grocery store fill stations sell purified water for roughly $0.35 cents or more per gallon when self filling a container you own and is best suited for human consumption and for watering indoor potted plants.
Water Filters have pieces of carbon inside of them and are usually found inside of pet water bowl pumps, residential refrigerators water lines, and ridiculously worthless life straws. These are primarily used for improving the Taste of potable water that has already passed through a water treatment facility purification system and not for purifying water from potential contaminates like salmonella or other water borne microorganisms.
Inspection Time
I started with a visual inspection of my grease pot! I gently taped the grease to remove the air pocket caused in transport and reinstalled.

Take the time to look over the compressor and familiarize yourself with the mechanisms. I opened and closed the bleeder valve, grease pot, water tank and pushed buttons without it being powered on. I do this So I can feel if everything was machined and threaded correctly. Inspect package contents and visible ORings.
Water Test
Begin with a water and pump test

Remove water tank cap.
- Visually inspect for discoloration of any kind and debris.
- If debris is visible use a long instrument like a chop stick with paper towel or a clean old tooth brush or similar brush to reach down and wipe out the visible debris.
- Using either distilled water or tap water (use tap water for this step only) pour a small amount in tank and then pour out into sink or bucket.
- If debris is excessively bad take this time to pour, run the pump, and empty the reservoir and then repeat water flushes until water runs clear and debris is no longer visible. If using tap water it must be completely drained and removed before adding distilled water or antifreeze (break bleeder pump or similar). You do not want mineral particulate build up from using hard water from the tap.
- Pour distilled water into water tank.

- ⚠️ fill to below the water return outlet near the top side of the tank.
- Gently tilt the compressor from side to side in all directions. The water should be visibly emptying from the tank and is now filling air pockets within the internal hoses and pump system.

- Gently tilt the compressor from side to side in all directions. The water should be visibly emptying from the tank and is now filling air pockets within the internal hoses and pump system.
- Refill water tank to bottom of the water return tube. More water may be needed once the pump turns on and empties this reservoir again.

- Power Supply
- Verify that the Compressor is set to correct power Voltage
- In the US this is set to 110V
- Verify that the Compressor is set to correct power Voltage
- Plug in the in wall power cord to the compressor and wall outlet.
- ⚠️ With the compressor power cord for home use installed and plugged into a wall outlet you will hear an internal fan power up. The compressor is not yet powered on.
- Push the Red toggle switch to AC power
- Verify that water is being circulated via the water return tube flowing water back into the water tank.
Dead Head Testing
Continuing from switching the AC mode on.
- Push the “Start Button”
Now feel if pulsating bursts of air are being emitted from the male hose port.
- Simultaneously be listening for any audible air leaks or any sound that would indicate the machine is not operating smoothly.
Power off the compressor
- This means putting the AC toggle switch back to neutral and pushing the “off” button.
Set the Auto Off pressure on the Gauge to 300 bar (for dead head testing only)

Add the air hose to the male connector
- The hose comes with a pre installed male to female plug for testing. Leave this in place.
Open the bleeder valve ⛔️ The bleeder valve should always be open when airing up PCP guns and tanks.
- Push AC toggle switch to AC on, push “Start”.
The sound of hissing air should be heard coming out of the bleeder valve. Now close the bleeder valve!
- Using a timer time how long it takes for the compressor to reach 300 bars of pressure.
- Once it reaches the auto shut off the compressor will shut its self off.
- Record the date and results for a baseline to compare to in the future. I wrote this on a piece of painters tape and put it onto the compressor. (28 seconds to reach 300 bar 6/23/25)
- Open the bleeder valve to release pressure.
- Turn the AC toggle switch back to neutral
- Unplug unit
Now you are set to air up a PCP!!
Issues
If the compressor is not achieving pressure check that the internal banjo fittings are tightened down.
Another reported known issue is that while in transport electrical connectors can come free from their terminal connectors. This is another area to visually inspect if experiencing functional issues.
Some people have reported having success at reaching out to the manufacturer for issues but I am not one of those people! I am less than impressed by the lack of adherence to US business consumer rights laws by not having a legal full written warranty. The response I received was vague and ambiguous and does not instill hope or confidence in this companies abilities.
