GX CS4-I Portable PCP Air Compressor 350W – Warranty

Let’s get down to business!!

When I look to buy any product I first want to dig into the product warranty for any possible red flags that violate protected US consumer rights. This helps me to identify any possible trouble that I may experience with a company if I need to file a warranty claim. The more red flags in a warranty = needing to file a consumer complaint via the State Attorney General Consumer affairs division and the FTC in order to get a company to abide by the Federal and State Consumer rights laws, if and when I need to file a warranty claim.

American Express gold card and platinum offer purchase protection and extended 1 year warranty on all purchases with a 5 year or less warranty. So for this purchase I have a 90 day purchase protection and if a product comes with a 1 year limited warranty or a 1 year full warranty American Express will match it for an additional 1 year! However proof of purchase and a copy of the written warranty must be submitted to American Express when submitting a warranty claim.

Nantong GuangXing Pneumatic Equipment Co. Ltd

The GX CS4-I is manufactured in China and sold in the US via the Chinese Manufacturer under the name GX compressors and under the brand name JTS and serpent arms but they are one and the same. This means any warranty or owners manuals being offered are ultimately from Nantong GuangXing out of China. There aren’t any warranty repair centers in the US. Since this company does not have a US based partner to facilitate warranty claims or adherence to the US Federal and State Business laws. You can expect to see poor translation in the marketing and advertising and piss poor adherence with US consumer rights and business laws.

⛔️ There are no US warranty repair centers for the GX air compressor.

I could not find any US based PCP air compressor in this price range ($700-$1,200). They are all manufactured over seas. I was looking at the Hill air compressor (made in England) but I could not find the US based partner handling National warranty repair issues. It is supposed to be Air Venturi but there was no public link on their website. I could not find online US owners manuals or warranty documents.

#1. 🚩⛔️ When visiting the Chinese manufacturing product website from the US there are ZERO PDF owners manuals.

#2. 🚩⚠️ When on the GX Air compressor Chinese-US website there is ZERO warranty information. The only warranty information even remotely visible is in the FAQ section.

Interestingly this manufacturer only offers a warranty if you buy directly from their website! let’s be clear here this “warranty” does not comply with the US FTC consumer business guidelines aka the Federal Law!!

Companies and businesses are not legally required to offer a warranty of any kind but if they choose to offer one then they must adhere to the FTC Business and Warranty Guidelines, State and Federal Consumer rights laws. Such as including pertinent information by identifying if a warranty is a full or limited warranty.

Prime example here on the GX website tucked away under the return policy. The company attempts to circumvent consumer rights to choose replacement or refund in the event repairs can not be made.

#3. 🚩⚠️ Zero written warranty does not comply with US FTC guidelines for warranty.

The GX website has a return policy in which they say they offer a 12 month warranty but do not outline what the warranty entails. It does not identify as a full or limited warranty per the FTC business guidelines and is hidden under the return policy which is also another violation of the FTC Business guidelines for Warranty. Any and all Warranties must be clearly and independently identified. This means it can’t be hidden in small text or within another policy such as is done here. This FTC regulation is to prevent unethical predatory sales tactics on unsuspecting consumers.

#4. 🚩☢️ zero repair manuals

There are no online PDF repair manuals, schematics, tutorials etc.. on the manufacturer website. So in recent years forward moving States like Colorado and Oregon have passed the Right to Repair Act 🎉🥳. What this means is that manufacturers are now legally required to provide consumers in these States with access to repair manuals and parts for self repairs and maintenance.

As we know from the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act it is illegal for a warranty to be voided if the consumer makes or has a third party make repair or modifications to a product!

Conclusion

I have emailed GX customer service requesting a written Warranty in full. I did get a response from the company but it was vague and ambiguous. The company does not have a legally recognized written warranty in the US!! In instances like this it is best to file a consumer complaint with the FTC online consumer fraud and compliance division.

So knowing all of this I highly suggest paying with a credit card that offers purchase protection and extended warranty with all purchases. Take screen shots of any written “warranty” information that can be found.

I also suggest requesting a full written warranty prior to any purchase! If a warranty claim is ever filed with a State Attorney General Consumer rights division or a credit card company then either a) the AG and the credit card company are going to require proof of purchase and a copy of the written warranty. Or b) the manufacturer does not comply with the warranty and a consumer rights complaint needs to be filed with the State Attorney General and that will also require a copy of the written warranty or proof of lack of legal warranty. Worse case situation is like with this Chinese company there is no existence of any legally recognized written warranty so any email communication from the company promising any kind of warranty care becomes an express warranty!

GX Compressor Documentation

The compressor has arrived and the only included documentation is a poorly written pamphlet. I am not surprised that there is no sign of any legal warranty documentation whatsoever. Aside from the lack of legal consumer rights written warranty I feel confident in purchasing the compressor via my American Express Gold card that offers purchase protection and built in extended warranty. This means that if any issues occur n the first 90 days or in year 2 of owning the compressor I can file a claim with American Express warranty department for a possible full refund.
