Bug Zapper that is Beneficial Bug Safe

⛔️ Outdoor bug zappers sold with UV lights are a non discriminative killing machine.

⚠️ Bug zappers require the UV bulb to be installed in order for the electrical circuit to be complete and for power to be given to the electrified cage which is what kills the insects. This means that removing the UV light bulb will cut power from the electrical cage.

So I decided to wage a personal strategic multi modal battle against Mosquitos by placing several Mosquito Bait traps around my property in addition to this hanging mosquito bug zapper and other various modalities. However I didn’t want any innocent beneficial insects to get caught up in the cross fire!

So using Aluminum Foil I wrapped my UV bulb and taped it with some HVAC tape and plugged it back in.

Next I added an octenol bait.

Admittedly the bait that comes with the Black Flag bug zapper is too small to last outside very long so larger bait lure will be needed for continuous use.

Apply using this same strategy to attract and kill nuisance flies by placing bait such as food scrap instead. I am sure that this would also work on a Dynatrap version bug catcher. Apply tinfoil or similar material over the UV light and place mosquito lure inside of it. I chose to use the electric bug zapper because I don’t want to deal with the possibility of finding living mosquitos in the trap when I go to empty and clean it.

Another good idea and strategy is to place a mosquito attractant bug zapper near a mosquito bait trap. I have already had my mosquito bait traps in place for 5 weeks now and I have seen a significant reduction in mosquitos. I am hoping that this in combination with other modalities will help eliminate the ones not caught by the bait traps.
